How to say goodbye in Persian

The main Persian goodbye carries a small blessing inside it.

The standard goodbye is khodahafez خداحافظ, literally "may God protect you." In fast speech it often shortens to khodafez.

Casual goodbyes

Among friends you will hear fe'lan فعلاً, see you / for now, and mibinamet می‌بینمت, see you. These are relaxed and friendly.

Warmer farewells

Be salamat به سلامت means "go in safety" and is often said to someone leaving on a trip. At night, shab bekheyr شب بخیر doubles as good night and goodbye.

Closing a visit politely

Before leaving, Persians often soften the exit with ba ejaze با اجازه (with permission) or mozahhem nemisham (I won't trouble you further). The goodbye itself comes after the courtesy.

Khodahafez covers almost everything, fe'lan keeps it casual, and be salamat adds warmth for someone heading off.
