Learn Farsi online free: what actually works

You can get genuinely far in Farsi without spending anything. Here is an honest map of the free route, including the free part of my own app, and the point where paying starts to earn its keep.

The free route is real

Farsi is underserved by the big platforms (Duolingo, Babbel and Rosetta Stone do not offer it), but the free ecosystem is better than its reputation. Free YouTube lessons, Persian music and films, and the Iranian diaspora's general delight in anyone learning the language will all carry you forward. The gaps in the free route are structure and feedback: knowing what to learn next, and knowing whether you said it right.

Start with the app's free unit

Learn Farsi: Real Persian is free to download and Unit 1 is completely free: greetings, courtesy phrases, and first conversations, with native speaker audio and six question types. There is no sign-up and no credit card, and you can preview every topic in the course before deciding anything. My aim is simple: the free unit should teach you real, usable Farsi on its own, and if the method works for you, the subscription unlocks the rest.

Free resources worth your time

This site's blog has free guides to greetings, tarof, numbers, pronunciation, and everyday slang, written for learners and checked by a native speaker. Beyond that: Persian films with subtitles train your ears wonderfully, and if you have Persian-speaking friends or family, they are the best free resource in existence. Iranians are famously generous with learners.

Where paying starts to help

Money buys structure and speaking time. A course subscription keeps the path laid out so you never wonder what to study next, and a tutor or conversation partner gives feedback no free resource can. My honest suggestion: spend nothing for your first two weeks, prove to yourself you will show up daily, and only then decide whether structure is worth paying for. The habit matters more than the tool.

Common questions

Is Learn Farsi: Real Persian free?

The app is free to download. Unit 1 is completely free with no sign-up and no credit card, and every topic can be previewed. A subscription (or a one-time lifetime purchase) unlocks the full course.

Can I become fluent in Farsi for free?

You can reach real conversational ability with free resources, patience, and speaking practice. Most learners find paid structure speeds things up, but nothing about Farsi requires it.
