How to introduce yourself in Persian

A good self-introduction in Persian is three short moves: your name, where you are from, and a warm nice to meet you.

To give your name, say esme man ... e اسم من ... ه, my name is ..., or man ... hastam من ... هستم, I am ....

Where you are from

Say man ahle ... am من اهل ... ام, I am from .... To ask back, use ahle koja hasti? اهل کجا هستی؟, where are you from.

Nice to meet you

The warm closer is az ashnaayitoon khoshvaghtam از آشناییتون خوشوقتم, nice to meet you (formal). A simpler version is khoshvaghtam خوشوقتم.

Putting it together

Salam, esme man Sara e, man ahle London am, khoshvaghtam. That short sequence, hello, my name is Sara, I'm from London, nice to meet you, is a complete, natural Persian introduction.

Practise the three moves as one flow, and a first meeting in Persian stops feeling intimidating.
