Persian question words

Master the question words and you can ask for almost anything, even with limited vocabulary.

The core set: chi چی (what), ki کی (who), koja کجا (where), key کی (when), and chera چرا (why).

How and how many

Chetor چطور means how, and you also hear chejoori for how / in what way. Chand چند means how many or how much, as in chand sale? (how old) or chande? (how much is it).

Which one

Kodoom کدوم means which. Kodoom yeki? means which one. It is useful in shops, menus, and any moment of choosing.

Word order is forgiving

Persian often keeps the question word where the answer would go, rather than always moving it to the front. To koja miri? literally is "you where go?" This makes questions easier to build than in English.

With these seven words and a noun or verb, you can ask your way through most everyday situations.
